About This Place

Located in the heart of South Richmond Hill, Sybil’s is a vibrant Caribbean restaurant and bakery that brings the rich, diverse flavors of Guyanese and Caribbean cuisine to New York City. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by an inviting atmosphere that evokes the warmth and heartfelt hospitality of the Caribbean community.

Sybil’s menu is a treasure trove of authentic dishes, passionately crafted to satisfy both the casual diner and the seasoned food explorer. If you’re craving something savory and comforting, start with their famed Fish Sandwich or indulge in hearty Jerk Chicken and lovingly slow-cooked Oxtail. The subtle spices and depth of flavor in dishes like Pepper Pot and Curried Beef and Roti speak volumes of the cultural heritage behind each bite.

For those seeking unique culinary experiences, the bakery section is just as impressive. The iconic Tennis Rolls, buttery and slightly sweet, pair perfectly alongside the dense yet moist Black Pudding or the tantalizingly sweet Pineapple Tart. These baked goods do more than satisfy the palate — they evoke cherished memories of home and tradition, something one reviewer nostalgically recalls from their childhood.

The Puri and Roti offerings are not to be missed, with menu highlights such as Chicken Roti, Goat Roti, and the ever-popular Fish (Banga) roti providing a perfect blend of flaky bread enveloping tender, slow-cooked fillings. The affordable pricing, ranging from $4.00 for vegetable options to $8.50 for seafood and oxtail varieties, makes Sybil’s an unbeatable destination for generous portions without stretching your wallet.

Beyond the food itself, Sybil’s offers a curated selection of traditional drinks like Maubi Ginger Beer and Guyana Lemonade, refreshing companions that elevate the entire dining experience. Customers consistently praise their quality not only in food but also in service, making every visit feel welcoming and well-cared-for.

What truly sets Sybil’s apart is the passionate community connection and consistent excellence. From heartfelt customer testimonials highlighting the tender, flavorful patties and exceptional desserts, to their generous contributions supporting local events like The Center for the Women of New York’s “Taste of the World” gala, Sybil’s embodies a sense of pride and care that resonates deeply with loyal patrons. The authenticity, value, and love poured into each dish make it impossible not to return, whether it’s for a quick lunch or a nostalgic culinary journey back to Caribbean roots.

Came here to try Guyanese food for the first time. I got some doubles, chicken and beef patties and my friend got curry chicken and roti with some dessert items that I got to try. They also have an excellent selection of sodas and juices in the fridge. Great value, taste, and super filling. I’d absolutely come back.

On behalf of The Center for the Women of New York, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Sybil’s for their ongoing generosity and support of our Taste of the World at Fort Totten gala. Once again, they donated their delicious chicken patties, which have become a beloved staple at our event. The chicken patties were perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. Their consistency and quality never disappoint, and it’s clear that Sybil’s takes great pride in their food. Our guests always look forward to enjoying these savory treats, and this year was no exception. We deeply appreciate Sybil’s continued commitment to giving back to the community. It’s because of dedicated local businesses like theirs that we can raise essential funds to support women across New York. Their unwavering support makes a meaningful difference, and it’s why we’re proud to highlight and recommend them. Thank you, Sybil’s, for your kindness, reliability, and outstanding contributions. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Where do I start with Sybil’s? Do I begin with my childhood in the ’90s, tasting their incredible baked goods like tennis rolls, Guyanese patties, the end piece of the pone (my mom’s favorite!), and those unforgettable pine tarts? Or should I talk about the late nights traveling from Crown Heights to their Church Avenue location in Flatbush, only to find they were closed, or the food runs in the afternoons and late nights through rough, rural parts? My mom made sure her kids knew our culture through its food, and that tradition has definitely been passed down. Now, as an adult, I’m still coming to Sybil’s restaurant. The food and bakery still have that same delicious taste. I’ve been coming to this location for some time now, and I’m no stranger—their baked goods and food remain top-tier. Every time I visit, I see women my mom’s age shopping here at all hours of the day, which shows that Sybil’s is a staple in the Guyanese community. I lean more on the American side, but coming here brings back an array of childhood memories, culture, and amazing food. Ps- it can get super busy at times!

Sybils is one of the best restaurants in New York, and I make sure to visit every time I’m in the city. They’re one of the only places that sell the original Guyanese patties — the real ones I grew up with. Not the soft, floury, yellow-looking versions that some places offer, but the authentic, firm, flavorful patties that remind me of home. This is the only spot where I can get the true taste of Guyana, and that’s why I keep going back. The food is always enjoyable, and I recommend them 100% to anyone looking for genuine Guyanese flavor. Whenever I visit New York, I eat there until I can’t anymore — and I still make sure to take some patties back home with me.
